Inclusive Education: Who, What, Where, When, Why?!
In the keynote speech, she will deconstruct what inclusive education means in today’s classrooms and communities and will also discuss common misunderstandings and myths and leave with ideas and possibilities of inclusive leaning communities and all who benefit.
“Inclusive education is becoming more and more important as classrooms become more and more diverse. It is less about trying to included “a couple” students with disabilities, and towards supporting teachers to teach TO the diversity. Inclusion is still often associated with disability, tends are moving towards diversity education, which include disability, but also include all the the many ways that we are diverse including race, gender, religion, language etc.
I am personally interested in inclusive education because of my own experience in school. I struggled and it took me way to long to realize what my strengths were. We need to build up students by supporting them and allowing them to uncover their strengths and contributions, rather than trying to make everyone fit into the same box.”
