Advancing Women in Christian School Leadership: Experiences, Opportunities, & Obstacles
Despite progress in the last 40 years, a snapshot of statistics show that men still rise quicker than women into school leadership and fill a greater ratio of school leadership positions, particularly those in secondary and more senior-levels of leadership (Kise & Watterson, 2019, p.12). Women are significantly underrepresented in school leadership throughout the world (Grogran & Shakeshaft, 2011, pp.28-41) including in Christian school leadership (Swaner, Marshall, & Tesar, 2019, p.10). This interactive workshop will offer participants an opportunity to probe and discuss data and initial findings from the researcher’s mixed-methods study of women leaders in Christian schools. Specifically, participants will discuss initial research findings related to opportunities and obstacles for aspiring and current Christian school women leaders. Additionally, participants will analyse and discuss findings related to the benefits derived from women assuming leadership roles in Christian schools.
