Topic:

Revisiting the Value of Chinese Education: Is It One Way to Reimagine Education?

Abstract:

While many international schools in Greater China Region aim to provide students with an environment of immersion in both Eastern and Western cultures, the representation of the Chinese elements tends to be minimal. They are often represented in the form of 4Fs (Food, Festival, Fashion and Flags). Given the current unprecedented changes and unpredictable challenges facing international schools in the region, it is probably time to revisit the value of Chinese education, reflect on the convergence and divergence between Western and Chinese education traditions, and rethink the possible ways of borrowing some elements from Chinese education into international schools.

During this workshop participants will:
  1. Identify valued assets of Chinese education that may help to reimagine and reboot education in international schools
  2. Recognize more convergences rather than divergences existing between the Western and Chinese education traditions
  3. Taste some examples about what can be borrowed from Chinese education
