Abstract

Empowering Students through a Coaching Approach

Equipping student leaders with powerful tools for self-improvement and helping others is an often overlooked aspect of school development. Coaching helps people produce extraordinary results in their lives and allows them to bridge the gap between where they are now and where they want to be. By teaching students coaching skills, and giving them opportunities to use them, we empower students to be effective leaders.
ESF is dedicated to supporting all students on their path to being the best that they can be. Teaching secondary students the science and skills behind Coaching has proven to be a valuable part of their education and life skills that they will take forward with them into Year 12 and beyond. Participants will learn how we implemented this coaching programme at Discovery College and hear student voice and reflections.

In this session, participants will learn about the peer-to-peer coaching approach taken with a Year 12 student cohort, the tools used to support instruction, the curriculum connections and practical activities integrated into the course to ensure a high level of student engagement.
